Joliet Junior College
The Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees voted to approve the
appointment of Dr. Debra Daniels as the next college president at their
Dec. 13 meeting.
Daniels will become the college’s eighth president when she begins
her contract March 1, 2012. Her appointment ends the college’s
three-month national search which garnered over two dozen applications
and three final candidates. The 14-member search committee included
faculty, administrators and staff and was chaired by JJC Board Chair
Barbara DeLaney and JJC Trustee and Board Secretary Andy Mihelich.
Daniels, who has over 30 years of higher education experience, is
currently the president of San Bernardino Valley College in California.
Previously, she served as district vice president for academics and
student services for Polk State College in Florida.
A community college graduate herself, she holds an associate of
applied science in dental assisting from Delta College; a bachelor of
science in allied health education from Ferris State University in
Michigan; a master of vocational and technical education and a doctorate
in education, both from the University of Illinois.
The college began its search shortly after former president Dr.
Gena Proulx lost her three-year battle with fallopian tube cancer in
August.
