Pearl River Community College

Dr. Kyle Hill currently teaches freshman music theory, applied percussion, and serves as Director of Bands. Since Hill joined the faculty in 1992, the percussion studio has become recognized throughout the State of Mississippi with former students attending Mississippi State University, Delta State University, University of Mississippi, and The University of Southern Mississippi.
    After receiving the Associates in Arts degree from Jones Junior College, Dr. Hill received the Bachelor of Music Education, Master of Music Education, and Doctor of Music Education degrees from The University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to his arrival at PRCC, Hill served as Director of Bands at Lumberton High School and as Associate Director at Oak Grove High School.
    Dr. Hill has judged numerous DCI competitions for Drum Corps Midwest and Drum Corps South as well as individual competitions for the Mississippi Percussive Arts Society. He has served on the executive council for the Southeast Mississippi Band Director’s Association, two terms as President of the Mississippi Junior/Community College Band Director’s Association, and Vice-President of the Mississippi Junior/Community College Faculty Association.  Dr. Hill is also the Fire Chief for Northeast Lamar Fire Department in Oak Grove and has served as the Southeast Vice-President for the Mississippi Fire Chief's Association. He is a board member on the Lamar County Board of Education where he currently serves as President. Dr. Hill has  served as President of the Pearl River Community College Faculty Association and is currently serving as President for the Mississippi Faculty Association of Community and Junior Colleges. 
    Active as a performer throughout Mississippi and Alabama, he has performed with the Mobile Opera, Meridian Symphony, Hattiesburg City Band, Hattiesburg Swing Band, Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera, and currently plays drumset at Temple Baptist Church. In the 1980's & 90's, as a member of "Backroads", a country-pop band, Dr. Hill opened for such celebrities as Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Vern Gosden, and Marty Stuart.
    As an educator, he holds memberships in the American Federation of Musicians, Percussive Arts Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, National Band Association, and the Mississippi Bandmasters Association. During his educational career, he has studied with Scott Reddock, Jeff Brown, Dr. John Wooten, Dr. Sherman Hong and participated in master classes with Leigh Howard Stevens, and Gordon Stout.
    Hill is married to the former Debby Harris who is employed as the Associate Registrar at The University of Southern Mississippi. They have a son Austin and a daughter Melody.
