Ucla Extension

Using journalistic approaches, multimedia tools, video, pictures, audio, and blogging, learn how to tell gripping stories about yourself and others. From narrating your grandfather's immigration to America to becoming a keen observer of everyday life, learn to avoid navel-gazing, create compelling personal narratives, and instill a sense of perspective in all stories. This course also addresses how to articulate your alter-ego or digital persona and how to define your "digital voice." Projects include creating personal multimedia essays and a participatory journalism assignment where you weave yourself into the story you are telling. The course is designed for students who want to create a multimedia personal story project as well as experienced journalists learning how to individualize their reporting. Prior experience with digital editing software preferred but not required.
